Clayton & Shuttleworth

Guided Tour and Talk for groups

Discover the origins of the Shuttleworth family fortune and Richard Shuttleworth’s inheritance.

This talk will cover the rise and fall of Clayton & Shuttleworth, one of the great agricultural manufacturers of Lincoln. It will go into their contribution to the agricultural revolution, the war effort and its legacy.  The company had agencies around Europe and the wider world to which it sold everything from portable steam engines, railway wagons and carriages, and oil engines.

You will also hear about Clayton & Shuttleworth machinery that The Collection owns, and what has been done to restore them to working condition. The Tour will concentrate on examples of output from the Company works in Lincoln that are on view in the hangars at The Collection.

There will be the opportunity to view The Collection’s agricultural heritage and hear about their restoration and histories.
