Aircraft Restoration

BLERIOT XI RESTORATION NOW COMPLETED
The worlds oldest airworthy aeroplane has undergone a complete overhaul within the hangar one aeroworkshops at the world famous Shuttleworth Collection. Extensive work has been carried out on the airframe including re-fabricing and overhauling the Anzani "Fan" type 3 cylinder engine. The engine is being fitted to the airframe ready for testing.

SE5a NOW FULLY RESTORED

The worlds only original airworthy example of this famous WW1 fighter has been completely overhauled.

FERGUSON BROWN TRACTOR NOW FULLY RESTORED

A rare example of this tractor has been painstakingly restored to it's former glory. The tractor which dates from 1937 is fiited with the orchard type axle which allowed a tighter turning circle. The tractor has the famous ferguson 3 point linkage system. This tractor had been in long term storage on the Shuttleworth Estate with several parts missing. The restoration took place in the hangar one storage area. The work was carried out by SVAS volunteers, overseen by members of the full-time engineering staff over a period of four years. Look out for the tractor on air days when she will be used to tow our vintage aircraft.

SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE MkVc OVERHAUL
Possibly the worlds most original airworthy Supermarine Spitfire is being prepared to receive a replacement Merlin Engine. The replacement engine has been entirely built at Old Warden by both our full time aero engine engineers and SVAS volunteers. Extensive work is being carried out to the engine bay area and everything forward of the pilots seat. Due to the constantly changing progress of our restoration work visitors may like to ring us and check the current status before embarking on their journey. The Spitfire restoration continues to attract huge interest. At the moment the entire fuselage is being paint stripped in preparation for its new paint. The aeroplane may not be visible to the public at certain times because the work is being carried out in a secure environment.

All these projects are normally on daily show to visitors in hangar one. Make a visit soon and take a look into this fascinating scene. Now is a good time to bring your camera and record how we keep our aviation heritage FLYING! See you soon. For admission and opening times see our home page.
