1926 Clayton & Shuttleworth 5 Knife Chaff Cutter

This chaff cutter (works number 1185) was built by Clayton & Shuttleworth and supplied new on the 23rd December 1926 by F. W. Weeks and Son, Canworthy Water, North Cornwall. It was manufactured to Weeks’ specification, having the bagging chute fitted to the rear of the machine instead of the centre.  There are also no underside riddles fitted, as stated in the build sheet so is therefore one of a kind.

It was used until 1950 when it was stored in a shed. David Solomon then purchased it in 1981 and rebuilt it. It still retains its original toolkit and instruction manual. It was donated to the Trust as part of the David Solomon Legacy in 2018.
