Harrods Heritage Award

The Shuttleworth Collection received the Harrods Heritage Award for the restoration of Richard Shuttleworth’s 1898 Panhard-Levassor. This prestigious award is given in recognition of the best restoration or heritage project.

This Panhard-Levassor was purchased by Richard Shuttleworth in 1928, as one of the founding vehicles of The Collection, and in which he successfully completed the London to Brighton run in 1928 and 1929. Its successful restoration enabled the car’s entry to the event, 90 years later!

Vehicle Section manager, Stuart Gray accepted the award on behalf of Shuttleworth at a reception at the Royal Automobile Club. Such an award is highly significant, as Stuart acknowledged, “It recognises the skills and technical expertise of our volunteer workforce, who are tasked with ensuring restoration and conservation work is undertaken with sensitivity to the history and provenance of the vehicle.”

The Panhard-Levassor successfully completed the 2019 Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on Sunday 3 November, its 5th entry into the event.
