Who doesn’t love a daffodil? At the Swiss Garden, our spring displays include many different varieties of the narcissus family, and we decided to celebrate our daffodils in style by giving them their very own festival! Did you know that there are varieties of daffodil that flower as early as late January, while others can bloom well into April and May?
Listen to an illustrated talk by daffodil specialist Johnny Walkers and find out what his ‘Desert Island Daffodils’ would be – not an easy choice apparently! See these listed separately on our events page for more information about booking.
The Friends of the Swiss Garden will also be running a ‘Springtime’ themed art competition for kids up to 16 years in the Garden Room over the festival period. The deadline for entries is Wednesday 9th March – more information can be found at http://www.friendsoftheswissgarden.org/springtime-competition
Pick up a self-guided Daffodil Trail leaflet when you arrive, and walk around at leisure taking in the beauty of the daffodils and other spring flowering plants as well as the garden’s lovely views. Look out for some named daffodil varieties such as ‘Cheerfulness’, ‘Golden Joy’ and ‘Rip Van Winkle’ – we have selected ten of our best for you to find and enjoy.
There are also options to download an audio guide or look up the garden’s history on our garden apps. A children’s trail will lead younger visitors on a fun and fascinating journey around the site.
