Talk and Tour – Remembering Richard Shuttleworth: 12th November

Join SVAS Chairman Kevin Panter for a talk and tour about the life of Richard Shuttleworth. The Shuttleworth Trust was established in Richards name after he gave his life serving in the RAF. So on remembrance weekend it only seems right that we commemorate his memory.

After a brief introduction, Kevin will take you through the hangars, highlighting some key exhibits and sharing some fascinating anecdotes from Richards’s fast paced life.

The Tour will begin at 13:00. If you wish to take part please meet in the Discovery Hub next to the Cafe at 12:45.

Pilot Chat – Aviation of WW1: 13th November

Join Scott Butler, one of Shuttleworth’s pilots, on a talk about some of the collections aircraft dating back to the First World War, and the early days of Military Aviation.

Scott will highlight some key aircraft, with a focus on the Avro 504. Learn about the history of these craft, their place in the war, and what they’re like to fly from one of the few people still able to do so.

The Talk will begin at 13:00. To take part please meet outside the cafe at 12:45.

Heritage Display – History of the Poppy and the Royal British Legion: 11th, 12th and 13th November

Over the course of the weekend we will have a fascinating display of heritage and history in the Discovery Hub.

Come and find out all about the Royal British Legion, why we commemorate Remembrance Day, and the history of the Remembrance Poppy.

Kids Craft  Day: 11th, 12th and 13th November

We’re making a field of poppies, and we want your help! Grab some colouring pens and paper and get crafting! Then, when you’ve finished one add it to the field on our window. We want to make our field as big as possible, so feel free to make more than one.
