Air Race Weekend: Schneider Cup
Shuttleworth is delighted to host Air Race Weekend, in collaboration with the British Air Racing Championship.
Come and enjoy a piece of history in action at Shuttleworth this July. Dating back to the early days of aeronautical engineering, the Schneider Trophy originally ran between 1913 and 1931, and would pit pilot against pilot in a nail biting air race. Now, after over 90 years the race that helped advance the world of aviation into the modern age has returned, now at Shuttleworth!
On Saturday 23rd July, pilots will be racing for the Merlin Trophy.
On Sunday 24th July, pilots will be racing for the Schneider Cup.
Aircraft will set off at intervals and will fly past the airfield on each lap. Finally they’ll dive for the finish line, all to fight it out for the trophy. So bring your binoculars, pick a favourite and keep an eye on the sky!
Come and be a part of the race that helped in the design of such favourites as the Supermarine Spitfire, and the P-51 Mustang. Cheer on the racers and get lost in the atmosphere at the Old Warden Aerodrome!
