Schools Wheelbarrow Garden Competition

The Shuttleworth Swiss Garden, accredited with Royal Horticultural Society Partner Garden status in 2020, is thrilled to be hosting our second Wheelbarrow Garden Competition for lower and primary schools in Central Bedfordshire over the Whitsun holiday.

The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Jubilee’, in line with celebrations that will be taking place around the UK to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign.  Schools have been invited to interpret the theme in their own individual and creative ways and if last year’s competition is anything to go by, we look forward to seeing many different and beautifully thought-out designs!

Visit Shuttleworth over the Whitsun holiday and vote for your favourite miniature garden – our volunteers will be on hand in the Swiss Garden to provide you with your free voting token.  All votes will be counted at the end of the competition and winners announced on our social media platforms.

The competition is sponsored by Poplars Garden Centre, who have kindly donated wheelbarrows, peat-free compost and a 20% discount on plants purchased by participating schools for the competition.  Bedfordshire Gardens Trust are also kindly donating National Garden Gift Vouchers to the winning schools.
