Race Day Air Show

Back by popular demand, our Race Day Air Show celebrates the passion Richard Shuttleworth had for racing, both on the ground and in the air.

He was known for his skill at racing horses, motor vehicles and aircraft which saw him win many accolades including the Donington Park Challenge Trophy in 1935.

Our Race Day Air Show brings together icons of the aviation and the motor vehicle industry for a dramatic day of full action both on our grass runway and the Bedfordshire skies.

The event also features a fantastic selection of ground activities for all, including vintage bus rides, classic car and motorbike parades, Discovery Zones, live music and much more.  Your ticket also entitles you to access the full Shuttleworth Collection and Gardens throughout the day, as well as unique access to Shuttleworth House.

Please note, tickets purchased when advertised as Wings and Wheels Air Show 2023 will still be valid.

Ground Attractions

Before the main flying display, there are plenty of other attractions to fill your day! Select from the drop down menu below to find out further details and opening times.

Shuttleworth Collection and Gardens

Open all day.

View our amazing collection of aircraft, vintage vehicles and several heritage exhibits in our hangars. Most of the Collection is in flying / working condition, so some of the exhibits may be flying or exhibited outside during the event.

For further information on the exhibits, please view details on our Collection page.

Shuttleworth’s Gardens include the Swiss Garden, a hidden romantic treasure and 10 acres of landscaped gardens. This garden lies adjacent to the hangars and Shuttleworth House.  Wander among splendid shrubs and rare trees, around tiny islands and ponds and over intricate ironwork bridges. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for our two resident peacocks!

View the Swiss Garden page for further details.

Shuttleworth House

House open: 11:00 – 15:00 (Last entry at 14:30)

Explore the glorious Victorian residence of the Shuttleworth family. Take a tour around a selection of the rooms which are full of original period detail, including a Victorian Grand Piano, enormous chandeliers, gold-leafed ceilings and panelled walls.

To get to the House, you can choose to walk from the Swiss Garden via the Shrubbery Walk, or alternatively hop on board the Vintage Bus which stops in front of the hangars.

On non air show days, the House is used for a variety of Shuttleworth events, and can be hired exclusively for weddings and other events.

Visit the Shuttleworth House page for further details.

Children's Activities

The Discovery Zones at Shuttleworth air displays are buzzing with engaging interactives aimed at all ages.

The very young are really excited to be given the chance to pilot the Joystick Club’s awesome pedal planes. The disappointment felt by those too tall to fit in them is soon tempered by the opportunity to construct and launch their own stomp rocket with YES or even sit in a real aeroplane.

Simulators are always popular, be it the British Gliding Association’s K13 cockpit simulator, WAHT’s superbly visceral Rocking Nacelle WW1 cockpit sim or the Joystick Club’s incredible Tomahawk and Seneca cockpit sims.

It is not all about flying, though – Shuttleworth’s Discovery Team will always have a really fun activity for you to build and take away, such as their ever-popular pop-pop steam boats or rapid racers.  Budding artists of all ages can try their hand at creating a work of art with the LAA Art for All Roadshow. And those who like their creations to be on a smaller scale can sit down with IPMS Brampton for the free Airfix Make n’ Paint workshops.

Pilot Chat

Join one of our Shuttleworth pilots as they give a talk at 1:30pm.

This rare opportunity gives you the chance to meet someone who takes our vintage and modern aircraft to the skies, as well as finding out what it takes to control these historic machines in flight.
