In 2025 we celebrate the Centenary of the first flight of the prototype DH.60 Moth, the aeroplane conceived and developed by Captain Geoffrey de Havilland which, together with its Cirrus and later Gipsy engine, revolutionised the concept of the light aeroplane around the world and established the practicalities for Club flying and private ownership.
DH.600, the event organised at Shuttleworth Aerodrome on Thursday 31st July and Friday 1st August 2025, is expected to gather together the largest collection of DH.60 Moths seen anywhere in the world since before the Second World War.
A Moth-themed flying display on Friday afternoon will include displays by a number of de Havilland types, supported by the de Havilland Moth Club’s famous ‘Tiger 9 Display Team’ presenting a special once-only formation of 16 aeroplanes flying a tribute appropriate to the celebration.
Including Moths flying to Old Warden from bases in Europe, this exclusive Centenary event is expected to present a time-line illustrating the development of the range of de Havilland aeroplanes: DH.51, DH.53, DH.60 Cirrus and Gipsy Moths, DH.80A Puss Moth, DH.82A Tiger Moth, DH.83 Fox Moth, DH.85 Leopard Moth, DH.87B Hornet Moth and DH.94 Moth Minor.
