The Shuttleworth Trust is saddened to learn of the passing of Princess Charlotte Cröy Twickel on Saturday 22 August 2026.
The Princess was Granddaughter of Dorothy Shuttleworth, and niece to our Collection founder, Richard Shuttleworth. She spent a significant amount of her childhood at the Old Warden Estate, later becoming a Trustee from the inception of the Trust until around 2015 when she became a Patron – a position she held up to her passing.
Princess Charlotte was a regular visitor to, and keen supporter, of Shuttleworth. Her most recent visit in October 2025 saw her exploring Shuttleworth House, regaling staff and volunteers with charming stories of her childhood experiences and providing new insights into the history of the building itself. After exploring Swiss Garden, she also enjoyed seeing the family’s Fiat 500 ‘Topolino’ in it’s new position in Hangar 1 – which she recalled driving in with her grandmother on various trips to Ampthill.
Her invaluable insight and passion leaves a lasting legacy within The Shuttleworth Trust.
