Princess Charlotte Croÿ Twickel visits Shuttleworth

Last Thursday, 30 October, we were delighted to welcome Princess Charlotte Croÿ Twickel back to Shuttleworth.

Granddaughter of Dorothy Shuttleworth, and niece of our Collection founder, Richard Shuttleworth, Princess Charlotte remains a keen supporter of The Shuttleworth Trust and enjoyed learning more about the significant developments that have taken place within the Trust since her last visit.

Over the course of the day, the Princess explored Shuttleworth House where she shared fond memories of her regular time at the House as a child – entertaining staff with some fantastic stories. She also took time to meet many of the team who volunteer at the House in order to discuss their archiving process, and providing invaluable insight into gaps in our knowledge of the House.

Princess Charlotte also took time to visit Swiss Garden to see the newly restored Summer House with Head Gardener, Tony Young.

She ended her day at Shuttleworth with a look at family vehicles she remembers driving in with her grandmother, Dorothy. Notably the Fiat 500 ‘Topolino’ (now located in Hangar 1) in which she drove with her grandmother to Ampthill.
